Raising awareness and funds for men’s health

010 30 October 2014

Bennelong MP John Alexander will again be growing the Mo this Movember to show his support for men’s health.

JA has pledged not to shave his Mo for the entire Month whilst fundraising for the Movember Foundation – the leading global organisation committed to changing the face of men’s health in support of prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

Together with his colleagues Hon Darren Chester MP (Nationals) and Graham Perrett MP (Labor), JA is leading a Mo-alition to encourage all Members and Senators to “grow the Mo or cough up the dough”.

Movember encourages men to grow a Mo and women to support Moustaches during November to raise funds and awareness by sparking conversations about men’s health. In 2013, almost a million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas worldwide helped raised $136.6 million for men’s health.

“Movember is a great opportunity to engage in conversation with men of a certain age about the importance of taking seriously our health. Regular check-ups are essential”.

“Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Aussie men, and testicular cancer is the second most common cancer in men aged 18 – 39 years, behind skin cancers.”

“1 in 8 Australian men experience depression at any given time, with suicide the leading cause of death for young Aussie men.”

“Awareness campaigns, support programs and fundraising are essential to deal with these important men’s health issues.”

“I know that my partner, daughters and staff may Moan about my Mo, but as a Modern man I am Motivated to seize the Moment to Modify my upper lip to raise Money for men’s health,” John Alexander said.

All Bennelong residents are encouraged to get involved by signing up at and growing or supporting the growth of a Mo.
