Stop the negativity and develop real policies that address the housing affordability crisis in our major cities
John Alexander OAM, MP, the Federal Member for Bennelong, has published an opinion piece in today’s AFR Weekend – the weekend edition of The Australian Financial Review.
The piece seeks to communicate four important points:
- Housing affordability is the number one issue of concern for the majority of Australians;
- Our major political parties are losing voters because they are too negative and lack vision, they’re using housing affordability as a negative political points scoring tool;
- There needs to be a positive contest of ideas where pragmatic policy reforms are enacted for the real benefit of Australians; and
- One policy option is to empower the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority to manage any investor driven housing market volatility by actively setting, on a monthly basis, the maximum allowable loan to value ratio for new investor loans.
