The Foreign Minister, the Hon Julie Bishop MP has visited the federal seat of Bennelong to meet locals and joined with the local member, John Alexander MP in a tour of the area.
Bennelong is one of the most multicultural regions of Sydney, and the Minister was able to meet people from many of the local diasporas, including representatives from the Chinese, Korean, Armenian and Arabic speaking communities.
She also visited a number of busy shopping precincts including Top Ryde and the bustling mall in Eastwood.
John Alexander said: “It was a great privilege to show off Bennelong to my colleague Julie Bishop. We are immensely proud of the tightness between our highly diverse local communities and the Minister was able to see this as she walked around our bustling neighbourhoods.”
“Bennelong is one of the most ethnically diverse regions in Australia, being home to large communities originally from Asia, Europe and across the globe. The tightness of these groups and the way they maintain contact with their cultural identity whilst integrating into the broader Australian society is the great strength of Bennelong and I was pleased that the minister could experience this on her visit to our great corner of Sydney.”
