Last weekend, 200 volunteers descended on Bennelong Park Putney for a Clean Up the World event.
People from across the community, including a large number of Korean groups, picked up rubbish for 3 hours, collecting 95 large bags and leaving the area considerably more beautiful than when they found it.
Also attending were Ian Kiernan, John Alexander MP, Mr Whie-Jin Lee, the Korean Consul, and Mayor of Parramatta Scott Lloyd.
John Alexander mucked in for the event. He said: “It was a fantastic day, and I was very proud to see so many local people helping keep our local area beautiful.”
“The waterfront along the Parramatta River can be very picturesque, but the mangroves often collect the waste from other parts of the harbour and from our drains. This event reminds us all of the importance of not littering and looking after our fragile environment.”
The turnout was fantastic and I congratulate the organisers for turning out such a great event.
Another initiative of Ian Kiernan, Clean Up the World is a community based environmental campaign that inspires and empowers communities from every corner of the globe to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment.
