Member for Bennelong John Alexander MP and Minister for Social Services Kevin Andrews today announced $1 million in funding to support the Camp Quality Primary School Education Programme.
Speaking at the launch of Camp Quality’s Puppet Showcase last night, Minister Andrews said the Australian Government was pleased to contribute to programmes supporting young children living with cancer and their families. “Around 10,000 children are living with cancer in Australia today and many more have a parent with cancer,” he said.
“The Australian Government is funding the development of a new phase of Camp Quality’s successful Primary School Education Programme, which continues to teach children about cancer.”
John Alexander said he was thrilled to be able to help local organisation Camp Quality. “The Programme helps children and teachers learn how to create a supportive school community for kids living with cancer and their families. It explains the challenges of living with cancer, dispels myths and gives them practical strategies for supporting a friend or family member with cancer.”
John Alexander on businesses and individual donors to support the important work of Camp Quality.
“Together, we can ensure organisations like Camp Quality will continue to support people in need. By joining together, government, community organisations, corporations and philanthropists and volunteers can make a huge difference to the lives of society’s most vulnerable people.”
Camp Quality CEO Simon Rountree hosted the event to showcase the new puppet show and encourage long-term corporate support for the Primary School Education Programme.
“With the support of the Australian Government we have tailored our touring puppet show and educational resources for primary schools to not only address the needs of children living with cancer, but children who have a parent with cancer,” Mr Rountree said.
We are now working to secure a corporate sponsor to ensure the long-term future of this ground-breaking programme.”
The Australian Government offers a range of programmes and services to support the community. Grants are also available to support projects, activities and events that respond to local community needs and make a positive contribution to community life.
