“Our electorate of Bennelong has the fastest growing economy of any metropolitan electorate on the eastern seaboard of Australia,” John Alexander proudly boasted today.
An SGS Economics & Planning report released this week ranked Bennelong as having the fastest growing economy in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania in 2014-15. Bennelong’s economic performance was only topped by four mining-based regions in Western Australia and Northern Territory.
“This result is an indicator of the great success of our region as people travel from around Sydney to access employment opportunities and high quality services in our local community,” John Alexander continued.
“As home to Macquarie Park, the innovation capital of Australia, and our vibrant retail centres at Top Ryde City, Eastwood, West Ryde, Meadowbank, Gladesville and Epping we are the envy of the country.
“The beating heart of the Bennelong economy is our local small businesses, who have been greatly assisted in the last two Federal Budgets. Over 7400 local small and medium businesses have had their tax rates cut and received tax breaks on purchases up to $20,000.
“Additionally, my successful Bennelong Village Businesses Campaign has been operating for five years and helped thousands of businesses by encouraging local residents to support their local retail community.
“Just last week I visited Cox’s Road Shops with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, promoting the wonderful and unique shops that can be found here, and celebrating this with the fortunate North Ryde residents.
“Bennelong is blessed with a great selection of small and big businesses, shops and shopping villages. I am certain that these have all contributed to our position as the leading metropolitan economy in Australia,” John Alexander concluded.
