Scouts sailing into the future with boatshed renovation

Federal Member for Bennelong John Alexander OAM MP has welcomed the commencement of construction that will deliver the revamp of the Epping Scouts Boatshed facility at Meadowbank, partly funded by a federal government grant.

The boatshed will be a state-of-the-art sailing facility, at the service of local young people and families.

Mr Alexander said: “Boating and Scouting promote independence, leadership, resilience, self-reliance and adventure for young people. This is important for their development. It’s wonderful to see progress on renewing this facility for the 21st century. I encourage families to inquire with the Scouts on how they could get involved.

Group Leader of Epping Scouts, Peter Buckley, said: “We are extremely excited to have now started construction. This has been a dream of ours for many years, even decades frankly. To have a brand-new facility that delivers such valuable services and experiences to local young people and families will be a wonderful outcome for the community, but also for the Scouts movement as we continue to adapt and serve our local community into the future. I’d like to thank Mr Alexander for his advocacy that eventually led to the grant that allowed us to move forward with the project.”

Scope Constructions have been awarded the contract and were recently on hand at the Meadowbank site to discuss the build with local Scouts and Mr Alexander.

Progress on the build can be followed on the Epping Scouts website: http://www.eppingscouts.com.au/home/boatshed-rebuild
