The Federal Justice Minister, the Hon Michael Keenan, has toured Eastwood at the invitation of local MP John Alexander.
The Minister spoke at a Community Crime forum held at St Phillip’s Church, Eastwood, before inspecting progress on the CCTV camera works ongoing at the Glen St Car Park, then heading across the tracks to meet community representatives.
The Minister was instrumental in securing funding for the CCTV cameras in Glen St Carpark. After a man was brutally attacked nearby in 2012, the Federal Government provided $200,000 to make the area safer through lighting and cameras. This upgrade is ongoing, and the Minister took a brief tour of the works.
In the forum, the Minister addressed the challenges facing security in Australia and the efforts the Government are making to combat these. He also spoke about the scourge of ice and how the government is meeting this challenge.
The Minister also praised our local police force, noting that Ryde Police has the best rate of catching burglars in the state.
John Alexander MP praised the Minister. “Minister Keenan is a wonderful member of the Liberal Government team, who has taken charge of justice and security at a time of great challenges. He has met these challenges with grace and is working hard to ensure residents of Bennelong and people across the country live their lives in safety and security. It was a pleasure to welcome him to Bennelong to talk to locals, and to see the results of the government’s $200,000 investment into the welfare of the people of Eastwood.”
