Last week Bennelong MP John Alexander was appointed Chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Infrastructure, Transport and Cities.
This new Committee has been formed as part of the Turnbull Government’s renewed focus on Cities policy, and John received the chairmanship in recognition of his long running policy work in this area.
“To be appointed to this role is a great honour. Cities and Transport policy is one of the most important areas that we can focus on,” John Alexander said.
“This Committee will be looking innovative methods to fast-track the funding and construction of necessary infrastructure to reduce traffic congestion and improve our transport links. This work will have a wide focus from local roads and light rail through to a High Speed Rail network between Sydney and Melbourne, the world’s fourth busiest air corridor.”
“‘Bennelong’s Biggest Survey’ which I carried out in August, highlighted that congestion and transport links remain one of the biggest issues of concern for our local community. Bennelong has 5 of the State’s 10 busiest roads and it is crucial that we fix this problem before it gets even more out of hand.”
“I look forward to finding new and innovative ways to improve our congested cities and ensure that Bennelong remains a wonderful place to live, raise a family and conduct business.”
