The Eastwood Lunar New Year Cooking competition was held on the weekend.
The event saw large crowds attend despite the inclement weather. This year it was again organised by Hugh Lee and the Eastwood Lunar New Year Celebration Committee. The festivities were kicked off by a fantastic Lion Dance before the cooking commenced.
After leaving empty handed in his 5 previous attempts at the competition, this year the top prize was awarded to Bennelong MP John Alexander who saw out fierce competition from 9 other community leaders including Danny Yap from the AAAB, Inspector Richard Puffet from Ryde Police, Omar Amed from Ryde United Community Cultural Centre, and Rita Lepedjian from Ryde Hunters Hill Symphony Orchestra.
John Alexander said: “The annual cooking festival has always been an excellent event, one of the reasons I compete every year despite my recent poor run of results.
It certainly helped that previous winner and Ryde MP Victor Dominello was not competing this year as he is a formidable cook who has deserved his previous victories.
I would like to Thank Hugh Lee and all of his team for organising another excellent event. I look forward to returning defend my title next year!”
